The Canadian lobster is one of the most strictly managed in the world. The fishing grounds are divided into 41 Lobster Fishing Areas (LFAs), each with its own season to ensure sustainability.

Harvesters use traditional traps attached to ropes and buoys. To protect the population, they use traps with escape mechanisms for undersized lobsters and release egg-bearing females.
